Friday fact #17: Colour photography

Taken in 1861 by Thomas Sutton.

Colour photography is photography that uses media capable of reproducing colors.

Black-and-white photography records only a single channel of luminance (brightness) and uses media capable only of showing shades of gray.

James Clerk Maxwell is responsible for taking the world’s first colour photograph, with the first colour photograph produced by Thomas Sutton for a Maxwell lecture in 1861.
